THORN HILL (WATE) - A law enforcement chase across two counties Thursday morning ended with a burglary suspect being killed in a crash.
The chase began in the Lower Caney Valley area of Claiborne County. Sheriff David Ray said an officer saw a vehicle pulling a trailer with an ATV away from a home that had been burglarized earlier in the week.
The driver, later identified as Kyle E. Brooks, 51, of Maryville, refused to stop so officers followed her into Grainger County.
Brooks was going westbound on State Highway 131 when she lost control and veered off the right side of the road, hitting a hill crest, according to a report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
She over corrected, went into a yaw into oncoming traffic and ran off the left side of the road, hitting a tree.
A passenger, Chase C. Starkey, 19, of Knoxville, was flown to UT Medical Center.
