GATLINBURG (WATE) - A Sevier County couple was arrested Wednesday night in connection to several thefts of copper tubing and air conditioning parts.
After a rash of thefts of copper tubing from propane tanks and air conditioning coils Wednesday in the Ski Mountain area, the Sevier County Sheriff's Office and the Gatlinburg Police Department launched a joint investigation.
The suspects and a vehicle were filmed on at least one video surveillance camera.
Gatlinburg police officers spotted the vehicle Wednesday night and took James C. Lowe, 25, of Sevierville, and Kristy A. Smith, 34, of Gatlinburg, into custody.
The sheriff's office issued warrants against the couple for nine counts of vandalism and theft. The police department charged them with three more counts of theft and vandalism, for a total of 13.
The pair is also accused of stealing an air conditioning condenser from New Era Baptist Church. It was reported stolen on August 21.
The couple was booked into the Sevier County Jail and arraigned.
The sheriff's office said the investigation continues and more charges may be filed.
