KNOXVILLE (WATE) - The Knoxville Utilities Board says Project Help needs donations all year round so it can provide emergency heating assistance in the winter.
Tough economic times mean even more people need heating assistance to stay safe and warm so KUB customers can give to Project Help. It helps the elderly, people with disabilities, and those who have an emergency need because of job loss, illness or injury.
The Knoxville-Knox County Community Action Committee administers Project Help. KUB collects donations and sends 100 percent of the funds to CAC to buy electricity, natural gas, heating oil, propane, coal, or wood for those in need.
Last year, 402 needy Knoxville families were helped by people who donated more than $100,000 to Project Help.
The program relies solely on community donations and fundraisers. KUB customers can make a one-time donation or a monthly pledge on the back of their utility bill or online.
Utility customers can also help by recycling their newspapers and magazines for Project Help at these locations:
- 7686 S. Northshore Drive (Rocky Hill Pilot)
- 5800 Western Avenue (Cumberland Pilot)
- 8642 Maynardville Pike (Copper Ridge Pilot)
- 421 N. Cedar Bluff Road (Cedar Bluff Pilot)
- 311 Morgan Street (in parking lot at Morgan and Magnolia)
KUB says even $1.00 donations can go a long way to help those in need.
