MORRISTOWN (WATE) -  An investigation across three counties is underway to figure out how a man's body ended up in Cherokee Lake.

Hamblen County Sheriff Esco Jarnigan says a boater made the discovery Saturday.

The sheriff says the victim is believed to be from Hawkins County but was camping in Grainger County when he died.

He says the body washed up on an island in Hamblen County.

Deputies believe the victim was in the water for three days.

The sheriff says there were no obvious signs of trauma. An autopsy is being conducted.
