KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A Fort Sanders Thai restaurant is home to a new Sunday night church service.
A Christian organization that refers itself as "out of the box" is using the restaurant as a way to expand its membership.
Chaiyo's Thai and Sushi is being dubbed a new campus for a Christian organization known as "The Point."
"We like to go where people are and it allows us to meet people in the middle, and connect with people in a real way," said The Point's lead pastor Matt Peoples.
The Point's membership has more than doubled since its inception in 2010.
Since that time, services have been held in the Regal cinema near the West Town Mall.
"I thought it'd be fun to have an evening campus, somewhere a little closer to campus, closer to the heart of the Fort Sanders neighborhood," said Peoples.
Those who attend the services say the church connects with people in a different way.
"You don't feel like you have to be proper, sit up and straight and everything—it's nice," said Tyler White, a Kingston resident.
A humorous storytelling is used to spread the word of God. The Point lets those in attendance use a cell phone during services to text questions to the pastor.
"I think it's nice. How many places can you go where you have free food? You can actually text questions to the sermon during church," said White.
The Point will offer a service at Chaiyo's every Sunday evening at 5:30 with free food to follow.
