KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Three protesters who were arrested in July at Y-12 National Security Complex want more time to prepare for their federal trial.

Michael Walli, Sister Megan Rice and Gregory Boertje-Obed face federal charges for allegedly trespassing at Y-12 and damaging buildings.

Their trial is currently slated to begin on October 10. They have pleaded not guilty to their charges.

Attorneys for the trio say they need more time to prepare because it's a complex case involving First Amendment issues and lots of evidence.

The protesters could face up to 16 years in prison if they're convicted on all the counts against them.
