SUNBRIGHT (WATE) - The principal of Sunbright School is suspended after allegedly paddling a kindergartner earlier this week.

Dr. Penny Boyd is suspended without pay as the school system investigates.

The parents of five-year-old Lukas Williams say they had given permission for school officials to paddle their child Tuesday, but they never expected what they saw when they picked him up from school.

"Devastated, angry," said Lukas' mother Sandra Hall, "Very devastated."

"Shocked, more shocked," said Lukas' father Jason Williams. "I had more confidence in the school."

Lukas' parents say he had large bruises all over his buttocks.

Lukas's sister, Rebecca Hall, started a Facebook page on Wednesday to inform the public about what happened to her brother.

"I want to see her out of the school system," said Rebecca Hall. "I would like to see her arrested."

Lukas' family has seen a lot of support from the community. On Friday, more than 50 people came to Sunbright City Park to show their support.

"When I seen the pictures I was absolutely sick to my stomach," said Jeannie Lawhorn, who drove all the way from Oneida. "This is a 5-year-old child that an adult has laid her hands on.

"They think we are dumb hicks up here," said Sunbright resident Amber Hamby. "We're not dumb hicks and we are not going to stand for people putting their hands on our children."

Lukas' parents have withdrawn him from the school, and are thinking about home schooling him. They say they will continue to fight until they feel justice has been served.

"I want her fired," said Williams. "She don't need a teacher's license. She never needs to be in pubic schools again. She needs to be fired."

6 News was told Principal Boyd has no record of any prior incidents.

Dr. Diden said he hopes to have the investigation wrapped up by late next week.

The family has filed a report with the Morgan County Sheriff's Department, and they plan to address the Morgan County School Board Tuesday night.
