More cases of West Nile Virus in Tennessee

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - The outbreak of West Nile Virus continues in Tennessee with more cases being confirmed in people.

According to the state health department, ten people have now contracted the illness. The latest positive test results are out of Memphis is Shelby County. So far, six people have been infected there.

Chester, Hickman, Haywood and Greene Counties each report one case of West Nile Virus in humans.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2012 is expected to be the worst year in history for West Nile Virus in the U.S.

More than 66 people have died and nearly 1,600 have become ill across 48 states. Nearly half of those cases are in Texas. Experts say the mild winter is to blame for more mosquitoes this year.
