MOORESBURG (WATE) - One man was killed and three others were injured when two boats collided Monday morning on Cherokee Lake.
Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency officials say the collision happened around 11:45 a.m. on Labor Day in the Poor Valley Creek area of Cherokee Lake in Hawkins County.
The investigation is continuing as TWRA officers try to piece together exactly what happened on the lake.
Officials say William Cantrell, 76, of Pound, Va., died after colliding with another boat.
A spokesperson for the Hawkins County Emergency Management said Cantrell did not drown, but was killed by the collision.
Timothy Cantrell, 52, also of Virginia, is in critical condition at Holston Valley Medical in Kingsport.
Two men in the other boat are both from Rogersville. Gary Cooper, 29, and Brandon Lawson, 33, suffered minor scraps and bruises.
6 News spoke with Cooper on the phone. He said he and Lawson were bruised and shaken up but "a lot more fortunate than the other boaters."
Cooper said he did not want to speak about the accident out of respect for the other victims. He said he has been replaying it over in his mind and would like TWRA to continue its investigation.
Cooper and Lawson were taken to Morristown-Hamblen Hospital where they were treated and released.
TWRA spokesperson David Crum said the boats were bass boats.
TWRA is taking the lead in the investigation. The Hawkins County Sheriff's Office and Emergency Management Agency are assisting.
