KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Knoxville police called off a search Monday morning for a possible missing child in the Fort Sanders area. Police say they have not received any reports of missing children and their search came up empty.

Police believe a smaller University of Tennessee student may have been mistaken for a child from quite a distance, according to police spokesman Darrell DeBusk.

UT issued an alert about a young child reportedly seen wandering in the Fort Sanders area.

The alert was issued shortly after 4 a.m. when a caller to 911 said a child was seen west of Forest Avenue at James Agee Street.

The caller told the 911 dispatcher the child appeared to be about seven years old and was carrying a backpack and teddy bear.

Knoxville police searched the area and set up a command center, but no child was found.
