KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A man holding a loaded gun surrendered peacefully Tuesday night after a two-hour standoff with police at a Knoxville apartment complex.
Christopher Lyons, 21, was arrested after threatening his ex-girlfriend and police officers around 10 p.m. at Big Oak Apartments on Middlebrook Pike
Police say Lyons was trying to get into his ex-girlfriend's apartment using a key. She had filed an order of protection against him and had recently changed the lock on the door.
Officers were kept at bay in an apartment hallway for about two hours as Lyons held the gun that he said was cocked and ready to fire.
The woman had two small children with her as Lyons tried to enter the apartment. They were able to escape during police negotiations with the suspect.
Lyons eventually surrendered peacefully to police. He now faces charges of aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon and violation of order of protection.
