KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A long jumper on the Vols track and field team was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly beat his ex-girlfriend with his hand in a cast.

Sophomore Tyler Montez Anderson, 19, of Antioch, lives on the University of Tennessee campus in Gibbs Hall. He's charged with domestic assault and vandalism, both misdemeanors.

His ex-girlfriend said the incident happened Sunday at her mother's house which is off campus.

According to a court affidavit, she told police Anderson got so angry while they were arguing that he used his right hand and the cast on it to repeatedly hit her in the face, nose and jaw.

She said he refused to leave for a time, hitting her with his cast in the upper body and using his left hand to grab her bra and swing her into a coffee table.

When he did leave, Anderson is also accused of pulling the mailbox out of the ground and throwing it into the road.

He's scheduled to be arraigned on his charges on September 12.

UT Associate Athletic Director Jimmy Stanton said, "We are aware of the incident and are in the process of gathering the facts and evaluating his status on the team."

Anderson placed 12th in this year's triple jump at the SEC indoor meet and he was 15th in the long jump.
