KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A body police say appears to be a woman's was found Thursday afternoon in the Tennessee River in West Knoxville.

The Knoxville Fire Department pulled the body from the water next to the city's Sequoyah Park at 1:19 p.m.

Cherokee Boulevard runs along the park. A man who lives in the 2000 block was on his back porch when he saw what he thought was a body. After getting a pair of binoculars, he could tell it was a body, and he called 911.

Police say they're going through missing persons reports.

The body was taken to the forensics center for an autopsy to determine the identity and the cause of death.
