New Kroger grocery store planned for Oak Ridge

OAK RIDGE (WATE) - The Kroger grocery chain plans to build a marketplace store in Oak Ridge.

The 113,000-square foot store will be located at the intersection of the Oak Ridge Turnpike and Illinois Avenue.

Homes that are located on the future shopping center site have been placed under contract by Blanchard & Calhoun Commercial officials working with Betsy Coleman Realty Co. of Oak Ridge.

Officials will bring the site plan and proposal to the Oak Ridge Municipal Planning Commission for rezoning consideration by close of business on September 10.

City officials expect the planning commission will consider the proposal at its September 28 meeting. If approved, the recommendation will be sent to Oak Ridge City Council.

The site includes space for several outparcels. Tenants for those have not yet been announced.

The space available also depends on whether the Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church decides to sell its property. The church will vote on that move later in September.
