KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Authorities on Friday closed an East Knoxville bar that officials describe as a "hub of violence."

The Knox County District Attorney General's Office and Knoxville police served a temporary nuisance injunction on Rock's Grand Lounge at 2415 Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue.

Police responded to gunshots outside the club on September 1 at 3:35 a.m. That evening, there was a shooting death there.

Officials said there have been five shootings, multiple stabbings and many assaults in the club and in its parking lot over the last 24 months. The bar has also been the scene of repeated drug, firearm and alcohol law violations.

The criminal activity has recently spilled over into a nearby church parking lot.

This is the 31st petition for a nuisance closing by the DA's office and the police department.
