LENOIR CITY (WATE) - Patton Jerry Moore, 65, of Lenoir City, is charged with especially aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor and aggravated statutory rape.

A Loudon County sheriff's detective says the way Moore is accused of grooming the victim is unlike any he's seen before, and he believes there are more victims.

Moore has been under investigation since last year for allegedly selling drugs.

Then Internet Crimes Specialist Jason Smith received information that Moore might be having inappropriate relations with juveniles. During a search of Moore's home in August, investigators seized three hard drives and many pieces of computer media including CDs and SD cards.

"It didn't take long before I was going through the micro SD cards and I began to see images and video which we identified as a 14-year-old girl," Detective Smith said.

He says they found other child porn, plus multiple pornographic photos of the 14-year-old girl saved on the computer.

The detective says they found several videos of Moore and the girl engaged in sex acts. "In the video, the camera he turns on himself and it was Patton Jerry Moore," Detective Smith said.

Smith says Moore sold the victim's mother pain pills and got close to the mother and her then 12-year-old daughter.

The detective says Moore began giving the 12-year-old girl pain pills. Then when the girl became addicted Moore stopped giving her the pills, allegedly making her perform sex acts to get them.

"He knew what pills would do and he used it to his advantage, and I don't think it's an isolated case," Smith said.

He says the victim's mother had suspicions something inappropriate was happening, but she never told authorities.

Smith says her addiction to pills overshadowed her concerns. "When that becomes your priority, everything else is on the back burner, and her daughter suffered because of that. And her daughter will have to live with this for the rest of her life."

Sheriff's detectives are still investigating the evidence seized from Moore's home. They're also working to determine if any of the pornographic images were shared or posted online.

Moore is scheduled to be in court on October 3. He's being held on a $125,000 bond.

The state Department of Children's Services is investigating the case as well.
