Sevier County hiker shot twice in Great Smokies

COSBY (WATE) - A 29-year-old man was shot twice in the right leg Friday while he was hiking in Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

The victim, Sanford Lethco, of Sevier County, was in the woods hiking close to Laurel Springs Road near Cosby, according to National Park Service Rangers and Special Agents. Lethco said he heard two shots and realized he had been hit. He didn't see the assailant.

He was flown to UT Medical Center Friday and was released Saturday morning.

The Cocke County Sheriff's Office got a call about the shooting around 5 p.m.
