CHEROKEE, N.C. (AP) - The lives and ways of mountain folk will be celebrated in the Smokies Saturday.

The Mountain Life Festival will be at the Mountain Farm Museum, adjacent to the park's Oconaluftee Visitor Center near the Cherokee, N.C., park entrance.

Old time skills including hearth cooking, apple butter and apple cider making, blacksmithing, lye soap making, food preservation, broom making, quilting, and chair bottoming will be demonstrated. There will be photos, mountain music and artifacts.

The event celebrates the folkways of the people who lived in the mountains before the Smokies became a national park. The event is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
