KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A man, a woman and a three-year-old child were injured Monday afternoon in a crash on northbound Alcoa Highway. Police said the driver was racing another vehicle.

Police responded to a single car crash at 2:01 p.m. in the northbound lanes of Alcoa Highway near the Naval and Marine Corps Reserve Center.

Witnesses said a Honda Civic and a black Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck were traveling at a high rate of speed and racing each other in the northbound lanes.

According to witnesses, the vehicles were passing each other when the Honda came to a slower moving vehicle in the inside lane.

Police said the Honda driver, Christopher Adam Beeler, 24, of Alcoa, tried to dart between the slower moving car and the truck when he lost control of his car.

The Honda hit the median wall, then went across both northbound lanes of Alcoa Highway and slammed into a rock wall.

Beeler, along with his passenger, Kayla Hatfield, 22, of Alcoa, and a three year-old boy were taken to UT Medical Center for treatment.

The Dodge pickup truck didn't stop and fled the scene.
