Williamsburg man charged with assaulting girlfriend, growing marijuana

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. (WATE) - A Williamsburg man was arrested Monday on charges of assaulting his girlfriend, resisting arrest and growing marijuana.

Whitley County sheriff's officers responded after a caller said Raymond Melton, 27, was shoving his girlfriend and wouldn't let her leave his home on Ted Ball Road.

The officers said they saw Melton hitting his girlfriend and heard her tell him to leave the guns alone.

A deputy opened the door and grabbed Melton. The sheriff's office said the deputy also found a loaded hunting rifle with a scope and a loaded .357 pistol by the door, along with three marijuana plants in pots in the front yard.

Melton was booked into the Whitley County Jail.
