Authorities planning saturation patrols in and around Knoxville

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - State and local law enforcement agencies say you'll see more officers out this weekend especially those on motorcycles.

Officers from THP and several local agencies gathered Wednesday in Knoxville to announce a saturation enforcement campaign. It's focused on Knox, Loudon, Blount and Sevier counties with the aim of reducing fatal traffic crashes by looking for drivers not wearing their seat belts, texting and driving or driving under the influence.

Lt. Johnny McDonald with the Tennessee Highway Patrol said, "We hope with the presence of motorcycles and the efforts of us taking enforcement action it will cause everybody to start thinking about taking those extra seconds to just to click it as opposed to getting a ticket."

The saturation effort began Wednesday and will end Saturday following the UT Florida game.
