UT Extension offering certification for kitchens

KNOXVILLE (AP) - The University of Tennessee Extension is offering classes in Knoxville and Nashville on requirements for using domestic kitchens to prepare consumer foods.

The food safety certification courses will help people who sell prepared foods meet Tennessee Department of Agriculture requirements.

The Nashville course will be Sept. 25 at the Ellington Agricultural Center. The Knoxville course is Oct. 12 at the UT Plant Biotechnology Building on the UT agricultural campus.

Preregistration with payment is mandatory, and the $100 registration fee is nonrefundable.

Domestic kitchens can be used in preparing jams, jellies, candies and certain baked goods including brownies, breads and cookies.

Registration is by phone at (865) 974-7717 or online at http://tiny.utk.edu/fstcourses .
