KNOXVILLE (WATE) - The University of Tennessee Athletic Department suspended a long jumper on the track and field team after he was arrested for allegedly beating his ex-girlfriend.

Sophomore Tyler Montez Anderson, 19, is charged with domestic assault and vandalism, both misdemeanors.

The incident involving Anderson was reported earlier in September at the home of his ex-girlfriend's mother off campus.

According to a court affidavit, Anderson refused to leave the home, hit the woman in the face repeatedly and the upper body with a cast on his right hand.

Anderson is also accused of pulling the mailbox out of the ground and throwing it into the road as he was leaving the home.

UT Associate Athletic Director Jimmy Stanton said Anderson was suspended last week from all team activities.
