Cocke County sets record sales tax collection

NEWPORT (WATE) - Cocke County officials say it's been a record year for sales tax collections.

County Finance Director Anne Bryant-Hurst says the county wrapped up its 2011-2012 fiscal year with a more than six percent increase in sales tax revenue.

The $8.8 million total beats the previous record set in 2007-2008 before the recession began.

Bryant-Hurst says a solid tourism year in Cocke County and in neighboring Sevier County helped.

The county is also getting revenue from new stores like the Tractor Supply company.
