Infant tossed from vehicle in North Knox County wreck

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A crash Sunday afternoon in North Knox County sent a baby boy and his mother to the hospital.

It happened just after 4 p.m. near Heiskell Road and West Bull Run Valley Road.

The Knox County Sheriff's Office says Madie Stanley, 31, was driving the vehicle with her 7-year-old and 4-month-old sons inside.

Officials say the infant was in a child seat, but not strapped in.

Stanley ran off of the road into a ditch, flinging the rear passenger side door open next to the infant. The baby was thrown out during the accident.

Mother and baby were taken by ambulance to UT Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The 7-year-old was taken to the hospital by a family member.

Stanley now faces charges of driving on a suspended license and failure to restrain her baby in the car.
