City of Oak Ridge celebrates 70th anniversary

OAK RIDGE (WATE) - Oak Ridge is celebrating a major milestone on Wednesday. The city officially turns 70 years old.

An official World War II Secret City Community event was held to commemorate the day and recognize the city as the first site of the Manhattan Project.

The city's official historian spoke about the history of Oak Ridge in front of the Oak Ridge Playhouse.

Mayor Tom Beehan also commemorated the day by reading a special proclamation.
