KNOXVILLE (WATE) - The Knoxville Police Department is canceling its annual Halloween in the City event this year.
The event began to give kids a safe place to go trick or treating.
It moved from Safety City to the Civic Coliseum last year due to its popularity. Now, officials say even that venue isn't big enough.
They've decided to instead focus their efforts on the Knoxville Zoo's annual event Boo at the Zoo.
"That's an event that's attended by a lot of citizens throughout Knoxville, Knox County and even outside Knox County so we thought our reach out to the community would be greater by participating in Boo at the Zoo," said police spokesman Darrell DeBusk.
City officials say they plan to see how this year's event goes, and they're staying open to the idea of bringing back Halloween in the City for 2013.
