KINSTON (WATE) - The son of former congressional candidate Scottie Mayfield entered a guilty plea for slashing the tire of the campaign chairman for Mayfield's opponent in the August primary.
Michael Mayfield, 33, was cited for vandalism under $500 for an incident that during an event in April at the Roane County Courthouse shortly after his father began campaigning.
Surveillance video allegedly showed Michael Mayfield slashing the tire of a vehicle owned by Fleischmann's campaign chairman, Tyler Threadgill.
In entering the guilty plea, Michael Mayfield agreed to pay restitution of $100 plus court costs. Jail time in his sentence was suspended as judicial diversion.
A sentence for his charge could have been as much as 11 months and 29 days.
