LOUDON (WATE) - A Vonore woman was killed Tuesday morning when her car slammed into a large truck in Loudon County.
The wreck happened when a 2005 Mercury Montego crashed head-on into a Waste Connections truck on State Highway 72 near Watkins and Malone roads.
The driver of the Mercury, Michelle L. Gross, 60, of Vonore, was killed.
The driver of the truck, Michael R. Matheny, 63, of Tellico Plains, was injured and taken to UT Medical Center.
According to a report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the Mercury was going west on Highway 72 when it crossed into the eastbound lane and hit the truck.
The report says it's unknown if any alcohol or drugs were involved and tests were requested.
Traffic was backed up two to three miles in both directions on the narrow highway.
