MEMPHIS (AP) - The father of a University of Tennessee student who was brought to a hospital with acute alcohol poisoning says his son was back in classes as the family looks into what happened.
Mark Broughton told The Commercial Appeal on Tuesday that Alexander P. Broughton, 20, was medically sound after being released from UT Medical Center on Sunday afternoon.
The Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity chapter at UT is suspended for 30 days while the national organization decides whether to make the action permanent.
Broughton was brought to the hospital by other young men early Saturday with a blood-alcohol level of 0.4% - five times the level of legal intoxication. There were reports he had been administered an alcohol enema.
The family planned a later statement.
