Cumberland County Sheriff's Office warns of 2 scams

CROSSVILLE (WATE) - The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office is warning people about two scams.

The crooks call their victims claiming they have won a large sum of money from Publishers Clearing House. In order to receive the payout the scam artists say taxes must be paid on the money first.

Victims are advised to purchase a Green Dot MoneyPak card in order to pay the taxes. In some instances, the caller also requests a bank routing number to withdraw the money.

But that's not the only scam. Next, callers tell the victim a grandchild is incarcerated in Canada and needs to wire money to pay bail.

If you have any information on either of these scams call the Cumberland County Sheriff's Department at 931-484-6176.
