KNOXVILLE (WATE) - People in Knoxville got a chance to sign up for the American Cancer Society Prevention study Tuesday night.

The group was set up at two area YMCA's to encourage people to take part. The American Cancer Society hopes to enroll at least 300,000 adults from across the country. Michael Holtz with the American Cancer Society said the goal of the study is to find the cause and the cure. "The importance of this study moving forward has huge implications for how cancer's treated, how it's found and from a research perspective what causes cancer."

The American Cancer Society is looking for people between the ages of 30 and 65 years old. Participants will fill out a survey of their medical history, lifestyles, and environmental factors. Then, a small amount of blood will be taken.

More information is available on a special website dedicated to the study.
