KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A federal judge has rejected motions to dismiss the case against ex-Knox County Judge Richard Baumgartner.
Baumgartner is accused of concealing and not reporting a felony in his dealings with a woman who supplied him with prescription painkillers.
Baumgartner's defense team had argued that he should not be accused of a federal crime because his statements were not made to federal officials.
The judge rejected that argument.
Baumgartner pleaded guilty to state charges of official misconduct after admitting his addiction to prescription painkillers.
