CLAIRFIELD (WATE) - The U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration has begun an investigation of the miner fatality Wednesday at a Claiborne County coal mine.

A ceiling collapse claimed the life of Jeremy Perkins, 32. He lived in Wallins Creek, Kentucky and was originally from Evarts, Kentucky.

The investigators will do a physical inspection of the accident scene, interview miners and mine management and review conditions and work procedures related to the accident.

The MSHA team will also review mining methods, training records and do tests, as necessary.

MSHA says enforcement action will be taken as it's appropriate.

After the investigation is complete, MSHA will issue an investigation report that will be shared with the Perkins family first, and then with the Kopper Glo company and the miners' representative.

MSHA also appoints a family liaison to be available to the victim's family members throughout the process.
