MORRISTOWN (WATE) - A Hamblen County hospital locked down for three hours Saturday morning during a bomb threat.

Morristown Police Lt. Tony Belisle said the incident began when a passerby noticed a suspicious bowling ball bag sitting in front of the Lakeway Regional Hospital emergency entrance.

Police officials called in a bomb canine to inspect the bag. The canine alerted officials that the suspicious package could contain explosive materials. The bomb squad then employed the use of a robot to inspect the package. Finally, officials sprayed the bag with water to discover its contents.

Officials discovered the package contained only clothes and did not pose a threat.

The hospital was locked down from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Belisle said, but returned to normal daily activities after the threat was averted.

Belisle said no follow-up investigation is expected.
