Former Henderson sheriff faces attempted murder

JACKSON (AP) - A former Henderson County sheriff accused of kidnapping and trying to kill his estranged wife has been indicted on charges that include attempted first-degree murder.

The Jackson Sun reports police investigators believe that Ricky Lunsford abducted Mary Lunsford from a bar at gunpoint on April 29.

Once outside, Mary Lunsford broke free and ran. Ricky Lunsford allegedly fired multiple shots at her, but she ducked between vehicles and was unhurt. Police said four other people were in the parking lot near Ricky Lunsford.

Ricky Lunsford was taken into custody shortly afterward. He remains free on $200,000 bond.

He was indicted on Monday by the Madison County grand jury. Other charges include kidnapping and assault.
