Oak Ridge Utility District warns of scam attempt

OAK RIDGE (WATE) - Utility officials in Oak Ridge say someone called a woman claiming to be from the utility's business office in a scam attempt.

The caller said the woman was more than 30 days past due on her account and needed to pay at least $50.

The caller told the woman someone would pick up the funds.

Oak Ridge Utility District officials say they do not call delinquent customers or accept payments in the field.

All city employees wear uniforms, carry IDs and drive clearly-labeled trucks.

If you have questions about your account, call (865) 425-3400.
