KNOXVILLE (WATE) - The Knoxville Police Department is investigating an armed robbery near the UT campus.

It happened just before 11:30 p.m. Friday night on the 1500 block of Laurel Avenue in Fort Sanders.

Police say the victim, Charles Bice, 23, let the male suspect into his apartment because the suspect asked to use the restroom. They then talked for around five minutes. Bice told police the suspect was friendly, and he did not expect any criminal activity until the suspect picked up cash in plain view.

Bice then confronted the suspect about taking the money, but the suspect pulled out a knife, and the victim did not attempt him from leaving. Bice was not injured.

The suspect was described as a white male, approximately 5-foot-6, 145 pounds, blue eyes, in his mid-30s and bald. The suspect has numerous tattoos and might be homeless. He may answer to the name "Justin" or "J. T."

Bice last saw the suspect running northbound from the apartment.

Anyone with information concerning this incident should contact the KPD at 865-215-7450.
