NEW YORK (WATE) - 6 News anchor Gene Patterson and photojournalist Brian Engelstad where honored for their reporting Monday night in New York City.

Patterson and Engelstad received a National Edward R. Murrow Award, one of the top honors given to journalists. The award is presented each year by the Radio Television Digital News Association.

The series of reports titled "Mission to Africa" by Patterson and Engelstad won an award for best use of video in the small market television .

Patterson and Engelstad traveled to Kenya in early 2011 to document the historic drought and its impact on the people there.

They went with UT Athletic Director Mike Hamilton and other members of the Nashville-based group Blood Water Mission, which provides clean water and more to people.
