KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Former University of Tennessee football coach Johnny Majors held a rally on Tuesday to help his former player, Anthony Hancock, win a seat in the State House.

Hancock is the Democratic nominee for the House in the 18th District, which has been held by Republicans since the 1990s. He played for Majors at Tennessee before becoming a pro with the Kansas City Chiefs in 1982.

Majors also appeared at a breakfast for Hancock last month.

Hancock's opponent, state Rep. Steve Hall, said he did not know if Majors' support for Hancock will impact voters.

Hall noted that he has the support of Gov. Bill Haslam, Speaker Beth Harwell and Congressman John Duncan.
