KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A fire destroyed a farmhouse Tuesday night in Knox County.

The fire at the home on Everett Road was reported by a passerby around 7 p.m.

No one was in the house when it caught on fire.

The home could not be saved. A nearby house and barn were damaged by heat from the fire.

"Our issue here was water supply, and the fire was extending into another home and a barn that were close by, built on the same property," Rural/Metro Battalion Chief Jeff Devlin said.

The owner of the structure thought it could have been arson. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the flames.

"Anytime you have any kind of investigation into arson, when you got an issue where people had an issue with anything, they moved their stuff out the day before and the day after the house catches on fire, it doesn't mean its arson" Devlin said. "It has to be investigated properly, but obviously it makes it suspicious."

Crews from the Karns Volunteer Fire Department and Rural/Metro worked together to put out the fire.
