TDOT worker hit by car in work zone, airlifted to hospital

JEFFERSON CITY (WATE) - A TDOT worker was seriously injured Wednesday afternoon when he was hit by a passing car in a work zone.

Maintenance worker Josh Chesney, 34, of Knoxville, was working along the side of the road on U.S. 11E in Jefferson County when a car drove into the work zone and hit him.

Chesney suffered a broken arm, a broken leg, a cracked pelvis, and a fractured skull. 

He was airlifted to the University of Tennessee Medical Center where he had surgery on his arm Wednesday evening.

As of Thursday morning, Chesney was still in serious condition at the hospital.

Jefferson County officials have not yet released the official report about the accident.
