Coleman's attorney asks judge to exclude evidence in Christian-Newsom case

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Attorneys for Christian-Newsom murder defendant Vanessa Coleman have asked the court to exclude certain evidence items from her retrial.

The defense filed motions Wednesday asking that prosecutors only be allowed to introduce black and white photographs and videos.

They argue that color pictures depicting blood and injuries would shock the jury, biasing them towards a guilty verdict.

Also, the defense wants to exclude pictures of victims Channon Christian and Chris Newsom, both before and after their deaths, plus certain gun evidence.

Coleman was granted a new trial after Ex-Knox County Judge Richard Baumgartner pleaded guilty to official misconduct and revealed his addiction to prescription painkillers.
