KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Popular restaurant chain The Cheesecake Factory is in discussions to open a Knoxville location.

The chain is in talks with Simon Property Group to build a restaurant in West Town Mall between Belk and Regal Cinemas, facing Morrell Road.

"Our restaurant development team is always on the lookout for great sites," said Alethea Rowe of The Cheesecake Factory. "We are currently in discussions with Simon Malls regarding a location in Knoxville and look forward to signing our lease soon."

According to the preliminary architect's renderings that were submitted to Knoxville's Metropolitan Planning Commission, the store would be built off of the existing mall structure near where the Forever 21 and Tommy Hilfiger clothing stores are currently located.

The proposed restaurant would be about 7,500 square feet with an outdoor patio area.

The full-service, upscale restaurant specializes in cheesecake, as the name suggests. The chain is also known for its extensive menu and generous portions.

According to their website, The Cheesecake Factory has almost 170 locations throughout the U.S.

The announcement follows a number of national chains opening up or planning locations in Knoxville.

CostCo, Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Cheddar's, and Tupelo Honey Cafe all have Knoxville locations either open or in the works.
