DesJarlais: Mistress wasn't pregnant, no abortion

NASHVILLE (AP) - A Tennessee congressman, in his first public comments since reports that he once urged a mistress to get an abortion, said the woman did not turn out to be pregnant.

Rep. Scott DesJarlais on Thursday did not further dispute a transcript of a recorded phone conversation in which he suggests to the woman they travel to Atlanta "to get this solved." His statement came in an interview with WTN-FM host Ralph Bristol.

DesJarlais acknowledged he was going through a difficult divorce at the time, and blamed his ex-wife, the congressman he defeated in 2010 and his current Democratic opponent for publicizing details from his past.
