KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A Knoxville teen died from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

Coger Robertson, a Karns High School student, was injured Thursday in a wreck on West Emory Road near Copper Ridge Road Thursday afternoon.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Robertson was passing a Ford Explorer while driving east on West Emory Road when the Explorer went to make a left turn. Coger's motorcycle ran into the side of the SUV.

Robertson was taken to University of Tennessee Medical Center where he died around 10:00 on Friday morning.

The driver of the Explorer was also injured in the incident.

"We are very sad to say that we lost one of our loved ones today. Coger Robertson has passed away peacefully after a motorcycle accident yesterday," school officials said in a letter sent to Karns High School parents Friday.

"Mr. and Mrs. Robertson would like to thank everyone for their love and support," the letter continued. "They are overwhelmed by the amount of love shared by our students and staff at Karns."

The Tennessee Highway Patrol is still investigating the incident.
