KNOXVILLE (WATE) -  A local woman is angry someone keeps vandalizing the President Obama campaign sign in her front yard.

June Jones lives in North Knoxville at the corner of Cedar Lane and Parkdale road. She says she is not going to let vandals stop her political spirit.

On September 24th, vandals used some sort of knife to cut the sign into pieces, and then two weeks later, after she had taped it back together, they tore it apart again.

"I was very upset," said Jones. "It wasn't the fact a $40 sign got destroyed. What upset me was what it meant. It meant someone thought my freedom of speech was not important, and just because it didn't line up with their freedom of speech that they could come on my property and cut my sign down."

After this second incident, Jones placed several smaller signs in front of the damaged one. One says to stay off her property, while the other one reads, "See the hate . . . is that the party you want."

Jones says she has no plans as of right now to take down the damaged sign. She feels leaving it like that gets a strong reaction, and so far she has received some very positive feedback from the community.

"It's great," said Jones. "We get letters on our door. We get people knocking on the door wanting to hug us."

Jones says she has not had any negative feedback about fighting back.

Her family is also behind her one hundred percent. "I think it's great," said Jones' daughter Meleena Lamb. "She's standing up for what she believes. She sending them messages. She's definitely sending a message not to come on our property again."

If the person responsible for this vandalism is watching Jones has a message for them. "If you have a problem with how I feel," she said. "I would love to sit down and talk to you, and maybe we can come to some common ground how we can bring the community together instead of cutting the community apart."

The Knoxville Police Department is investigating this vandalism and have added extra patrols in the area.

June says she is thinking about putting a new President Obama Sign in her yard, but next time it will be much larger.
