Education commissioner visits all districts

NASHVILLE (AP) - Tennessee Education Commissioner Kevin Huffman may have reached his goal of visiting all of the state's school districts, but that doesn't mean he's slowing down.

Huffman told The Tennessean that now he's concentrating on his second goal of meeting with 10,000 teachers in forums where they can ask him questions.

Meanwhile, he says the visits have made him rethink how the state provides services to school districts, and he is making changes.

For example, he has already reorganized the state education department's regional offices into a network that helps schools meet their educational goal instead of just telling them whether they comply with state policy.
