CLINTON (WATE) - A man is dead after he was shot Saturday during a scuffle with an Anderson County sheriff's deputy.

The shooting happened on Pine Ridge Road in the Marlow community, near Clinton.

According to Tennessee Bureau of Investigation spokesperson Kristin Helm, Randall Kyle Wilcox, 30, was killed. Helm said Wilcox has a lengthy criminal history, including 20 arrests since 2000.

The name of the deputy has not been released.

Helm said the deputy made a traffic stop for a non-moving violation, but Wilcox then fled on foot. As the deputy attempted to apprehend Wilcox he allegedly tried to take the officer's weapon. That's when Wilcox was shot.

The deputy was taken to Methodist Medical Center with minor injuries.

The TBI says evidence will be turned over to the district attorney's office once the investigation is complete.
