CROSSVILLE (WATE) - A Cumberland
County deputy was injured
and another person killed during a confrontation
Sunday.
The shooting
happened on Mailand Road,
northwest of Crossville, shortly before 7:00
p.m.
Deputy Jonathan
Human was responding to a trespassing call on Spooner Drive. The suspect, David Fish, 41,
had entered the property and when the deputy approached him, Fish attacked the
deputy.
Human then shot
and killed Fish.
"The altercation
took place as the officer was attempting to arrest Fish and Fish suffered fatal
wounds," explained Investigator Casey Cox, with the Cumberland County Sheriff's
Office.
Human was taken
to the hospital, where he was treated and released. He is on paid administrative
leave pending the results of an investigation by the TBI, which is standard
procedure.
Neighbors say
Fish's ex-fiance lived in the house.
"He was living
in the basement of the house and got kicked out by the gentleman who owns the
house. The gentleman was his future father-in-law," explained Tabitha
Whittenberger, a neighbor.
People living in
the area said they were leery of Fish when he lived
there.
"I told my
children not to go over there," explained
Whittenberger.
"What she told
me was that he stalked her," said Kevin Moore, about how he says Fish harassed a
female friend.
Fish's criminal
history shows a restraining order taken out against him. He also has multiple
domestic assault charges, among other crimes.
